Our Easter Offering this year will be divided between United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and Promise Neighborhood in SE St. Cloud.
UMCOR is the agency through which UMC operates to provide emergency support and rebuilding where there has been a disaster. Think of: food, clothing and emergency shelters. long term rehabilitation after a disaster. children needing to play and learn in disastrous circumstance. relief partnerships to be quickly developed with other denominations and faith-groups, non-profits and government agencies. This we do, and you do, in the name of Christ!
Promise Neighborhood serves economically and racially disadvantaged families in SE St. Cloud. The target area is persons in the Talahi Elementary School neighborhood in S St. Cloud. In reality it serves the larger community. People are assisted as needed in locating resources for food, clothing, shelter and jobs. Friday evenings there are children and youth programs that respond to the needed social activity and remedial academic help. Community –wide and themed picnics (such as the health fair) are held in the summer. Children and adults can take part in a program in computer literacy classes. There is a summer youth camp that includes growing a community garden. Public school personnel indicate that it is making a positive difference. Promise Neighborhood was developed with important support of several churches including FUMC, as well as other funding assistance.
